Summer driving tips are here again!

posted by

Summer has returned again! Between road trips, late evening drives and even afternoons in the local pub garden, here our some of our top tips for enjoying a safe drive this summer!

General car inspection and top off fluids

If you haven’t in a while now is the perfect time to spend a few minutes looking over the general condition of your car and looking out for any potential problems including checking your tyres and making sure your brakes are working correctly.

In this hot weather your fluid levels may deplete quicker than usual so ensure your coolant, oil and wiper fluids are all topped up!

Avoid getting into a baking hot car!

We’ve all been there. First you burn your hand on the car door and as soon as it opens you can hardly breath from the hot air inside – don’t even get us started on trying to safely hold onto a piping hot steering wheel!

You can avoid most of these issues by parking in the shade if possible. If your car is in a safe place you can see then keep a window slightly open will help air circulate and if you know in advance you’re going for a drive it may be worth putting the air-con on for a few minutes before setting off.

Finally, purchasing a sunshade for your car should make your steering wheel cool enough to handle when you get in!

Keep the sun out of your eyes!

We always recommend keeping a spare pair of sunglasses in your glove box, you don’t want to be squinting your eyes while trying to drive and the late evening sun in the summer can completely blind you while driving.

Always be prepared for anything

In the summer months it’s not just usual road traffic you have to account for. There will be significantly more pedestrians on the street, kids chasing stray footballs into the road, horse riders down country lanes and much more wildlife bolting out from the side of the road. Keep your wits about you and be prepared for anything!

Enjoy a well deserved drink!

Nothing beats spending the afternoon in a pub garden with a frosty beer or glass of wine. Don’t ruin it by driving under the influence, get a friend to pick you up or take public transport.
