Driving in the snow, beast from the east returns!

posted by

It looks like the beast from the east is coming back this month!

After over a week of snow and icy conditions early this month there’s reports that more may be coming in the next couple of weeks! Hopefully you tried to avoid any unnecessary trips last time around but in case the winter weather does come back here are some tips on how to deal with the treacherous conditions.

Journey Plans

Make sure to plan your journey carefully before leaving the house, taking care to consider areas that are going to be exposed to snow and icy conditions such as back lanes and hills.

Leave in plenty of time

As well as having time to defrost your windows, heat up the car and remove the snow from your roof it’s important that you’re not in a rush while driving, especially in dangerous conditions where being impatient brings many dangers.

Make sure that you fully wipe the inside of your windows so you can see the road well and pack some snacks, drinks and a blanket just in case you do happen to get stuck.

Check you screenwash

Use a good quality screenwash that protects against freezing.

Check your Tyres

Check your tyres for sufficient tread. Bald tyres will not give you any grip when driving on snow and ice.

Consider changing to snow tyres if you live in an area where snow is common.

If you have any concerns about driving in the snow and ice such as tyres with little to no tread call Tyred and Exhausted Aylesbury today on 01296 432552 and we’d be happy to help!
